He was a bandoneón player who made his listeners wonder what mystery, what magic he was producing. Troilo was a master of personality and feeling in his expression. He was an orchestra leader and his style was that of tango which was balanced without being dramatic and was of undeniable taste. Troilo knew how to select his band in such a way that would implement his musical ideas beautifully. He first played the bandoneón at the age of 10; when he heard the beautiful sounds coming from cafes in his neighborhood and persuaded his mother to buy one for him. Then, his first encounter with an audience was when he was at the age of 11, on a stage near El Abasto which was a noisy farmers market. After that, he was included in a ladies’ orchestra and then at the age of 14; had the idea of forming a quintet.
